The Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan won the “World Car of the Year 2015” award this week at an awards ceremony at the New York International Auto Show.

The C-Class, a sedan that was added to the production line of Mercedes-Benz U.S. International in Vance last year, is the Germany-based automaker's top-selling vehicle worldwide and in the United States. MBUSI makes the C-Class for the North American market.

The C-Class also is built at Mercedes plants in Bremen, Germany; New London, South Africa; and

Beijing.

The 2015 C-Class was one of three Mercedes models to win an award at the auto show. The S-Class Coupe was named “World Luxury Car 2015,” and the AMG GT sports car picked up the award for “World Performance Car 2015.”

Mercedes noted in a statement that it was the only auto manufacturer that had five vehicles in the final round of the awards this year.

The awards were decided by an international jury of 75 renowned automotive journalists.
