A $29,460 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley is helping workers at an east Alabama car parts manufacturer learn new job skills.

Mando America Corp. will train 15 workers at its Opelika plant in new skills to increase productivity and increase the company’s competiveness. The plant manufactures brake systems and steering and suspension components for the Montgomery-based Hyundai and LaGrange, Georgia-based Kia Motors facilities.

“By expanding their skills, these workers help create a more competitive workforce in Opelika and they underscore the fact that Alabama has highly capable people ready to work,” Bentley said. “I am pleased to help these employees further their careers.”

The 10-month training course will be conducted on site by the Alabama Technology Network. The company is contributing $33,660 to the training.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U. S. Department of Labor. ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resources, job training and career development.

Bentley notified April Reiger, Mando America training and recruiting specialist, that the grant had been approved.
